Shepard strong on business

BURLINGTON FREE PRESS LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Shepard strong on business

July 21, 2006

When I talk to chief executive officers around the United States they frown at me when I suggest a plant or a branch located in Vermont. I paraphrase their statement, but it goes something like, "You want me to locate in Bernie Sanders' state with a proven record of anti-business politics -- do you think I am crazy." Unfortunately this is a common response.

Now I have found someone that would attract good business and good jobs to the state. He has started his own high technology company, which has been so successful that he has been able to spend half a year in the Vermont Senate -- each year for many years. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute's entrepreneurial program, which in the past 20 years has spun off 650 new companies.

Mark Shepard is the best possible person to represent Vermont to the entire United States. If he replaces Rep. Bernie Sanders, the business attitude toward Vermont will change considerably and that will make a big difference. I believe Shepard's proven business capabilities and government experience deserves your vote.

"... many politicians talk the talk about doing something tangible about new jobs and it doesn't go much further. Sen. Shepard walked the walk."
"Sen. Shepard's big accomplishment, and it is a significant one, lies in the major role he played in bringing the Bennington Microtech Center into being."
